Civilization Exploring Next Gen Territory

After years of feeding a large base of dedicated PC gamers, Sid Meier are once again scouting out some new territory for their classic Civilization franchise (after several so-so attempts on previous consoles). Though no systems were specifically mentioned in the press release, the trailer confirms Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution is being prepped for Xbox 360 and PS3. Given the point-and-click nature of the gameplay, we can’t help but hope that a Nintendo Wii version of Revolution is in the works too. Unfortunately, with the game’s release tentatively set for spring 2008, we probably have a long wait until we’ll know for sure, though we may hear something at E3 this July. For now, you can read the official announcement of Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution in the press release included below:

New York, NY – June 28, 2007 – 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.

Sparks Opens Creative and Engineering Studio in Detroit Area

6/20/2007 - Award-winning event marketing agency Sparks today announced the opening of Sparks Detroit, a creative and engineering studio located in the Detroit area.

The studio, officially opened in Royal Oak, MI, on June 1, allows Sparks to tap into the Detroit-area creative pool. Long one of the worlds largest and most trusted designer talent bases, Detroit provides Sparks with fertile ground to enhance its roster of established and budding structural designers, digital designers, architects, graphic designers and industrial engineers.

Although initially established as a design-based studio to support the growing needs of Sparks global client base, Sparks Detroit will evolve into a sales and service outlet over time. The opening of this studio allows us to add a tremendous amount of creative depth and value to our organization, thus supporting our company-wide effort to grow business opportunities within our existing client base and secure new accounts, says Christopher Kappes, EVP Sales at Sparks.

Home Console Development?

In the last 15 years or so, there has been a boom in the home audio industry brought about by the reduced pricing in high quality recording equipment and affordable computer hardware and software. Every middle class kid and their brother can write, record and market their songs, interviews, monologues, etc.

This has been true of the PC gaming industry as well. There are plenty of powerful open source or cheap tools available for the creation of digital game content. This has resulted in a vibrant freeware and shareware game culture on the web. Modding tools are also prevalent and have served as springboards for many a fledgling artist, programmer, level designer into the universe of Triple-A game production.

This has not been the case for consoles so much, however.
