| Home Console Development?
In the last 15 years or so, there has been a boom in the home audio industry brought about by the reduced pricing in high quality recording equipment and affordable computer hardware and software. Every middle class kid and their brother can write, record and market their songs, interviews, monologues, etc. This has been true of the PC gaming industry as well. There are plenty of powerful open source or cheap tools available for the creation of digital game content. This has resulted in a vibrant freeware and shareware game culture on the web. Modding tools are also prevalent and have served as springboards for many a fledgling artist, programmer, level designer into the universe of Triple-A game production. This has not been the case for consoles so much, however.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix music post mortem by ...
It's impossible to talk about the music of The Order of the Phoenix without first mentioning Jeremy Soule, who composed music for the previous Harry Potter installments. Jeremy is, of course, a very hard act to follow. As many will know, not only is he a highly talented composer of symphonic music for games but his work often outshines that of many established film composers. In 2004, I had the pleasure of being on the jury awarding The Chamber of Secrets a BAFTA for Music – which speaks for itself. There are so many ways to approach a Harry Potter game, depending on what the intentions behind it are and what kind of experience it's seeking to deliver that it can be somewhat daunting to all involved. Is it the game of the book, the game of the film – or something in between? Should the music refer to the earlier game scores, or be something else altogether? It soon became apparent that the game series would be getting closer than ever to the audiovisual style of the WB films - so, in many ways, the decision was being made for me.
