Europe Gets New DS Fashion Game

Milton Keynes - 505 Games today unveils is slinky new number for November, Fashion Designer: Style Icon, for Nintendo DS. The game sits in 505 Games' burgeoning portfolio of ‘lifestyle simulations' and allows fledgling fashionistas the opportunity to conquer the world of fashion via Nintendo DS stylus.

Players take the role of a young designer eager to dominate the catwalk and follows their career from fashion training school, through graduation and beyond. After graduating, players can start a workshop, accept private design contracts, supply small boutiques and set up mail order companies. Design the best fashion creations and players can even supply outfits to the stars and VIP clients.

The comprehensive simulation gameplay is mission based and offers players the chance to present their creations in catalogues and movie posters, and even gives designers the freedom to select which supermodels, hairstyles and creations will strut their stuff on the catwalk.

Student plans to put Wales on the videogames map

Adam Griffiths, a student at Newport Business School, is setting up a company that will provide employment for Wales' talented games designers and help the country to profit from this multi-million pound industry. "The computer games industry is one of the biggest in the world yet there are very few companies in Wales making games, said 30-year-old Adam who lives in Newport. "As a result, many people like myself who are gaining degrees in computer game design are having to leave the country in order to find jobs." To combat this 'brain drain' of computer game talent, Adam, who is about to graduate from the University of Wales, Newport with a degree in Computer Game Development and Artificial Intelligence, is setting up a company called Centrifuge Interactive Studios. "By starting my own company I will be able to stay in Newport and avoid the stress of relocating my wife and young children to find a job making computer games.

The Wonder Years: Week 10 - special feature

Welcome to "The Wonder Years", the column where all gamers of a certain age come to wallow in 16-bit nostalgia. I'm your host, Owain J. Brimfield, and I'll be discussing some of the hidden gems and instant classics of gaming's golden era. This week, we have something a little different to celebrate the 10th week of the column, a concept I'll hopefully be doing every 10th week (because I love the decimal system, y'see). Anyway, this week's special feature is: The most memorable characters of the Wonder Years Now I shall introduce a little caveat here - I'm going to avoid mentioning the obvious heroes of the 16-bit era, such as Mario, Sonic and Mega Man (much as I love the little blue armoured guy). What this column is all about is the unsung guys and gals you may not have heard of, but deserve all the recognition they can get.
