The Organizing Committee of the Pan American Games Rio 2007 (CO-RIO) presented in Maracanã Stadium on Thursday, June 28, the Pan American Rio 2007 Cauldron, which will be lit during the Opening Ceremony of the Games on July 13. Minister of Sports Orlando Silva believes that the Cauldron lighting will be unforgettable to all persons participating in the Games. “The Cauldron is marked by creativity, modern traces, and Brazilian architecture. Whoever is present at the stadium will keep the memory of this moment," he said. President of CO-RIO and of Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) Carlos Arthur Nuzman was touched by the project. “It is completely different from anything that has ever been seen. Creativity will certainly mark the opening of the Games," he said. A design by Carnival and fine artist Rosa Magalhães, the Artistic director for Ceremonies, the Pan American Cauldron is round-shaped, and like the Stage it will evoke the Sun, the inspiring element of the Mascot.
